Introduction
Approximately 45 minutes by floatplane from Anchorage, Redoubt Bay is one of the most easily accessible brown bear viewing spots in Alaska.
A memorable way to begin or end your holiday, the scenic flight over the Cook Inlet to the Redoubt Bay Critical Habitat Area makes the journey alone worth the effort. On arrival, you will board a covered pontoon boat, accompanied by an experienced naturalist, for a 3-hour cruise through the Big River Lakes.
These are host to sockeye and Coho salmon runs, and are popular feeding grounds for the resident brown bear populations. The salmon run takes place during July, however brown bears can also be spotted from mid-June through to the end of August. A hot lunch is included at Redoubt Bay before returning by air to Anchorage.
A longer, full-day version of this excursion is available which includes a 6-hour boat trip in search of bears at Redoubt Bay. Please note that wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.
