Introduction

Standing at the top of Wellington’s Botanic Gardens, Space Place (formerly Carter Observatory) is only a brief journey from downtown Wellington.

Strolling through the city to the cable car terminus at Lambton Quay, your journey will begin, flying high over the city as you approach this wonderful Observatory where you can be enthralled by the night sky and the southern stars.

Recently refurbished in 2010, the observatory features new exhibitions and a digital planetarium which celebrates the culture, heritage and science of the unique southern skies and includes a live presentation of the night sky over New Zealand.
