
Introduction
A unique and private conservation site that aims at saving one of the rarest penguins from extinction, this is a good place for visitors to come who would like to encounter New Zealand’s yellow-eyed penguin.
On arrival, you will join your guide before boarding a bus to head over the farmland to the isolated reserve. There, your guide will lead you on foot through a unique system of covered trenches into viewing hides, which allow visitors access to the living areas and breeding grounds of this shy penguin.
These hides allow guest plenty of opportunities to witness and photograph undisturbed activity at close range. Visitors will gain first hand information of these wonderful birds from distances down to less than a metre.
Please note that participants must be comfortable on their feet as it is a walking tour and a maximum of 900 metres will be covered.
