Introduction

Nothing quite captures the adventure and isolation of the frontier north quite like a journey by floatplane, and no trip to Alaska would be complete without one.

Beginning and ending in Anchorage, this journey heads over the iconic Prince William Sound and provides a bird’s eye view of the countless fjords, inlets and glaciers which cut through the impressive landscape.

Rugged mountain peaks capped in sparkling white and the fifty-one kilometre Columbia Glacier are monumental but their true size can only be appreciated from the air, passing over fields of icy white and arctic blue. The clear waters of Prince William Sound itself are frequented by many species of marine life and humpbacks, orcas, seals and otters can sometimes be spotted. If you’re lucky, you may even spot black bears roaming the shorelines, smaller, but just as impressive as their brown counterparts.
