Introduction

Take a full-day adventure into the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, where Grizzly Bears reign supreme during the annual salmon run.

Your journey kicks off in Campbell River and travels through the enchanting Discovery Islands on the Salish Sea. Guided by seasoned skippers, venture into the stunning Bute Inlet, one of British Columbia’s greatest fjords and prime Grizzly Bear habitat! As you travel through this breathtaking landscape, keep a look out for the local wildlife. Humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, bald eagles and seals can all be spotted here.

Upon reaching Orford Bay, your real Grizzly Bear adventure begins with a 3-hour land-based exploration. Dozens of bears arrive at the bay in Mid-August to feast on the spawning salmon and eggs – part of their ancient quest to fatten up before the long winter. Travel by bus to elevated viewing platforms and prime ground-level spots for the perfect vantage points to witness the Grizzlies in their natural habitat. As the bears feast, keep a look out for herds of elk and bald eagles.

Throughout the trip, your guides share stories of the Homalco people and their ancient connections to the land. Learn about the rich history and traditions of this remarkable region.

Lunchtime at the Orford Bay dock is a treat in itself, with unobstructed views of the estuary and its stunning mountainous surroundings. It’s the perfect opportunity to refuel and reflect on the extraordinary experiences of the day.
