Northern Lights by Boat

Introduction

Leaving the bright lights of Reykjavik behind, this excursion takes visitors on a boat trip to observe the northern lights from the unusual perspective of the sea.

Sailing away from the coastline of Iceland’s capital city, guests will travel out into the dark skies of the open north-Atlantic.

An area untouched by artificial light pollution, on clear nights it is possible to witness one of the world’s most spectacular natural phenomena.

Displaying a pallet of colour, from peridot green to royal purple, the northern lights dance their complicated path across the polar sky.

With beautiful mountains and the hushed glow of the city lights forming a backdrop, this is an unforgettable chance to witness the aurora borealis.

Northern Lights by Boat with a Backup Plan

A lower price and a guaranteed adventure!

In case of unfavourable weather conditions where it is too windy to sail, the backup plan ensures you still get an excursion on the same evening, plus the ability to join the northern lights by boat tour on the next available night.

In the unfortunate event your boat trip is cancelled, you will instead encounter a northern lights themed visit to the spectacular Whales of Iceland Exhibition, which is in close proximity to the Old Reykjavik Harbour.

This excursion includes a tour of the life-sized models of all 23 whale species found around Iceland, in addition to a documentary (approx. 25 minutes), which features spectacular footage, myths and stories about the northern lights. After the film there will be a Q&A session with your guide and a complimentary drink of your choice will be provided at the bar.
