A bit about me…

I’m a Teacher of Geography at an independent school in Kent. I am passionate about the benefits of outdoor education and love teaching in the field. My visits to Iceland are now in double digits, having first visited Iceland on a Discover the World Education PGCE trip! As a Physical Geography and Geology specialist there really is nowhere better than Iceland to illustrate such a wide variety of concepts.

Why I love being a Teacher Tour Leader…

There is nothing better than getting a group of students in the field to see dynamic processes in real life and enabling them to understand the interconnected nature of Geography. Iceland is perfect for demonstrating glacial, tectonic, fluvial and coastal processes (often all in one location!) and being able to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for Iceland with groups is incredibly rewarding.

My favourite place in Iceland…

When touring groups in Iceland, each day brings a new sense of awe and wonder, so my favourite place on a trip tends to change daily! I do particularly like slightly less touristic areas though, particularly the Thorsmork Valley – the views having hiked to the top of Valhanukar during an Icelandic summer’s day are quite something!

My favourite activity in Iceland…

I have a keen interest in glaciology, so it has to be walking on Solheimajokull glacier and seeing how it has changed from visit to visit.
