Aurora Safari Camp

Introduction

Inspired by African bush camps, the Aurora Safari Camp offers a unique Arctic glamping experience surrounded by the wild forests of the Råne River Valley in Swedish Lapland.

The camp’s wilderness location offers spectacular stargazing and the chance to see the aurora borealis dancing overhead, whilst in the forest you may spot moose, red fox and reindeer. Complimentary snowshoes, kicksleds, Nordic skis and fat bikes are available for exploring the local trails, and additional activities such as dog-sledding and snowmobiling can be arranged too (extra cost).

Your adventure begins on arrival at the camp where you will be transferred from reception to your tent by a snowmobile sleigh ride along the frozen river. Aurora Safari Camp features just 4 cosy lavvu tents with a heater and proper double or twin beds, complete with warm duvets and fleece blankets. The outside temperature can range between -5C to -30C but the lavvus are always snug and warm inside.

The communal lounge lavvu is a great place to relax with a drink before dinner, whilst outside there is a campfire area boasting magnificent views over the frozen river. All meals are included in your stay and are served in the lounge lavvu.

Other facilities include the wonderful sauna, which during summer floats on the river but come winter is frozen into the thick ice, with a natural icepool outside to plunge in after steamy sessions in the sauna room. The sauna is the perfect place to warm up in Arctic conditions, and using it the Finnish way means you are fully cleansed rather than needing a shower.

The camp also features a shared eco-toilet and washroom which are about 30 metres away from the tents. Please note that showers are not available at the camp, but if needed they can be arranged at a nearby location.
