Norway Trip Types and Experiences

Our collection of trips to Norway can be tailor-made to suit your interests, time-frame and budget. Whether you prefer free-roaming self-drives or independent touring by rail, winter breaks in search of the aurora borealis or summer hiking adventures.

Planning a trip to Norway

Norway is an vast country with a population of just under 5.5 million, which equates to around 12 people per square kilometre. Ideally suited to outdoor adventures, you can often feel like you have the countryside all to yourself. Boasting a rich Viking history, it is a country that blends tradition and modernity, particularly, in the capital, Oslo.

Its appeal is year round but there are reasons to visit at different times of year. In winter, venture into the Arctic Circle and discover a landscape of snow covered mountains and majestic fjords. Head to the coast to witness whales in the fjords, gaze at the aurora from the deck of a ship, or stay in a stylish fjord-side resort in a prime location for seeing the northern lights and where exhilarating winter activities fill your days. Slip on snowshoes, hop on a snowmobile or mush a team of huskies.

Norway is equally breathtaking during summer. Days are long, with the perpetual light of the midnight sun in the far north from mid-May to late July. You can really take your time to explore the country’s natural beauty. This the perfect time of year for self-drives, hiking adventures and rail journeys. Immerse yourself in nature with exciting activities from kayaking to whale watching, and stay in places that are full of character.

Norwegian Coastal Voyages

One of the most recognised brands in Norway, Hurtigruten refers to the traditional coastal route taken by working steamers from Bergen in the south fjords to the North Cape at the top of Finnmark, Norway’s most northerly region.

Though still a trading route, such is the magnificence of the scenery that cruises up the west coast have become the most popular way for visitors to experience the iconic coastline. Sailing year-round, choose to experience the midnight sun in summer or watch out for the aurora in winter. Ships range from more traditional to the new hybrid vessels of Havila.
