Introduction
Take an unforgettable helicopter flight over the volcanic landscapes of Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula, including the site of the Fagradalsfjall eruption.
Having lain dormant in the Geldingadalur valley for 800 years, a fissure stretching several hundred metres finally opened up in March 2021, revealing the spectacular sight of burning red lava which has since cooled to a river of black rock. The volcano erupted again in August 2022, with vivid glowing lava flowing over the original lava-field. Even when no longer active, the volcanic peaks and lava fields of the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark stand testament to the volatility of nature, and are best appreciated from the air.
