Day 1 Vancouver - Jasper

Overnight onboard Via Rail’s 'Canadian' This evening (7.30pm) check-in at the Pacific Central Station and board VIA Rail’s ‘Canadian’ for the famous train journey to the majestic Canadian Rockies. The original stainless steel ‘streamliner’ railcars (made famous by the ‘Canadian’ in the 1950’s) are now fully refurbished with air conditioning, a café car, lounge car, and access for all on board to the viewing dome car. By day, sit back in comfortable armchairs; at night attendants will transform your quarters into cozy bunks or bedroom. Enjoy complimentary tea and coffee or in the evening before dinner complimentary hors d’oeuvres. In the viewing dome you’ll feel the true essence of travelling by train - where scene after memorable scene sweeps by. This evening retire to your Sleeping Car where a comfortable bed awaits you. Amenities include thick towels, plump pillows, cozy down duvets and a shower kit.

Day 2 arrive Jasper

By the time you awake this morning the train will have just departed Kamloops to begin a day of travelling towards the Canadian Rockies and Jasper. Enjoy breakfast (included) while surrounded by dramatic scenery as you follow the banks of the North Thompson River through the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Around lunch time the ‘Canadian’ begins its passage into the Canadian Rockies with views of snow-capped peaks, Pyramid Falls and the expansive glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. Pass by Mount Robson, which at 3954 metres is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Arrive in Jasper and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore this unique mountain community. (Breakfast & lunch included today onboard Via Rail).

Day 3 Jasper

Experience the wonders of the Maligne Canyon from the ground up! The canyon has withstood 10,000 years of erosion and has created a 165 foot gorge. Certified guides will lead you in groups of no more than 12 along the frozen canyon floor and its ice-clad limestone walls. Super soles and winter boots will keep you warm and secure as you explore this wonderland of rock and ice. Please note: ice walk tour operates 15 December to 30 April.

Day 4 Jasper - Banff

Travel southward along the Icefield Parkway to Banff. This spectacular drive through glacier country will be highlighted by massive snow covered mountains, frozen waterfalls and broad reaching valleys. Banff is situated in Banff National Park, this charming town has much to offer including winter walks, ice skating, world-class shopping and unique dining.

Day 5 Banff

A morning tour of the Banff area will take you to many of Banff's landmarks and historical places. This will also be one of your best chances to see wildlife while in the park. Photo opportunities and short walks to viewpoints with your guide are abundant on this tour. This afternoon make your own way to the stables, a short walk away from downtown. Your tour in a horse drawn sleigh will manifest the magic of winter.

Day 6 Banff

This is a full day of exploring and activity. You will be led on a guided sightseeing tour to Lake Louise. You will also have free time to explore the lake on foot or on snowshoes, relax in the chateau or rent ice skates on your own. You'll be returned to your hotel late afternoon.

Day 7 Banff

This morning is free to relax or explore the magical winter wonderland of Banff. This afternoon take a leisurely snowshoe tour winding through a forest of pine trees to the Paint Pots, a cultural treasure within the national park. Along the way you will hear stories of Banff's indigenous people, explorers and fur traders who lived and travelled through the Rockies. Afterwards enjoy a uniquely Canadian treat - hot maple taffy poured into snow to make a sweet frozen dessert.

Day 8 Banff - Calgary

Today transfer to Calgary where your tour ends.
