Overview

This semi-escorted tour takes you on an unforgettable journey through the magical Norwegian fjords in its winter colours. From Oslo to Bergen via the legendary Naeroyfjord, enjoy snow-covered southern Norway. On the Flam and Bergen Railway you can sit back and enjoy stunning panoramic views of the white, wild and wonderful inter landscape, leaving you with a memorable Vision of the Fjords.

The tour includes two nights in Oslo, two in Flam and two in Bergen, staying in standard hotels on a breakfast basis. Two dinners are also included in Flam.

The magical journey

Travelling independently between the different locations is as much a highlight as each destination itself with natural beauty at every turn. Start with time to explore the Norwegian capital city of Oslo at your leisure. Continue your journey by train to Mrydal and join the famous Flamsbana railway. The 20-kilometre winding track is considered to be one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world, taking you through picturesque landscapes to the town of Flam on Aurlandsfjord.

Cruise the spectacular Naeroyfjord surrounded by steep mountains with snow covered tops that stretch up to 1800 meters above sea level. Waterfalls cascade down the mountains and picturesque villages dot the landscape. This is an area that is featured on the UNESCO world heritage list and is considered one of the world’s most beautiful fjord landscapes. Return to Flam by bus from Gudvangen.

The final leg of the tour is by train to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bergen, with a day to explore this colourful city.

Itinerary

Arrive in Oslo and make your own way to your hotel for a two night stay in Norway’s stylish and historic capital city.

Enjoy the sightseeing of the Norwegian capital on your own. Sights include Frogner Park with Vigeland sculptures; the museum of Viking ships showing three original examples; the Royal Palace; City Hall and Akershus Fortress, a medieval castle showing the history of Oslo. Rest of the day at leisure – walk along the streets and explore the city of the royal family, and the main Karl Johan’s street, with many shops, bars and cafes.

Meet your tour escort after breakfast and walk to the train station, where you will board a train towards Myrdal. A mountain railway station and junction, Myrdal is located about 13 km from Flam village. Here you will board the famous Flamsbana – one of the steepest train lines in the world. The train journey runs through fantastic nature, past the Rallar road, steep mountains, breath-taking waterfalls, through 20 tunnels and offers so many viewpoints that many feel like travelling multiple times between the mountain and the fjord. Arrive in Flam, walk to the hotel and check in. Rest of the day at leisure to explore.

Witness Naeroyfjord in its full winter glory. The narrow and spectacular Naeroyfjord is surrounded by steep mountains with snow covered tops that stretch up to 1800 meters above sea level. Water falls cascade down the mountains and picturesque villages dot the landscape. This is an area that is featured on the UNESCO world heritage list and is considered one of the world’s most beautiful fjord landscapes. You start the Fjord Cruise trip from Flam. The roundtrip is a combination of cruise and a shuttle bus that takes you back to where you started. (You can upgrade your Fjord cruise to rib boat with extra cost.)

Enjoy a last minute walk through the frozen village. Or join our optional tour for snow shoes (additional cost) and experience the beautiful morning light from high above the fjord! Departure by train to Bergen – the world heritage city. Bergen is the Gateway to the Fjords of Norway. As a UNESCO World Heritage City and a European City of Culture, the Bergen region has the ideal combination of nature, culture and exciting urban life all year around.
