A journey should always be savoured as it is as big a part of the trip as the destination itself - by combining rail journeys, drives and sea travel, you see more and appreciate just how big the planet is.

From a young age travel has been a passion for me ever since I stood at the airport as a child with my hands pressed against the glass looking at the giant jet that was to carry me across the globe.

I love to immerse myself in the destination and culture, from the people, the food and local traditions. So far, I’ve been lucky enough to visit 45 countries over 6 continents with many more on my bucket list.

Stand out destinations for me are Iceland for its varied landscapes and chances to see the northern lights, Greenland where I was amazed by a sunset over the Ice Fjord cruise in Ilulissat, Norway for the amazing scenery, autumn colours and varied activities and Finnish lakeland region for being off the tourist trail.

The Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands will always stand out. I remember feeling so humbled to be walking beside king penguins and fur seals in their natural habitat.

On a recent trip around Svalbard the feeling of being so far removed from the day-to-day life, experiencing the stunning and varied scenery and up-close encounters with wildlife and the sound of the ship cracking through the ice left me with the feeling of awe.
