Overview

This fully-inclusive winter break combines stunning scenery, adventure and relaxation in the heart of Finnish Lapland, 260 km north of the Arctic Circle. Stay at the Star Arctic Hotel, located on top of Kaunispää mountain and boasting panoramic views over Saariselkä. Just 25 minutes away from Ivalo, this property provides the perfect spot for an Arctic adventure as well as great opportunities to view the northern lights.

Upon arrival in Ivalo you’ll be transferred from the airport to the hotel where you’ll stay on a full board basis. With a wide range of winter activities all starting directly from the hotel, you can relax and soak up the experience knowing everything is taken care of.

As well as the winter activities available, the location is well away from the city lights making it an ideal location to venture outside in search of the aurora borealis and Saariselkä’s Ski Centre, the most northerly in Europe, is just a minute’s walk from the hotel, perfect for those who wish to hit the slopes.

Accommodation

Star Arctic Hotel has been sympathetically built to fit into its surrounds, combining modern design with simple elegance. All rooms feature large glass windows with views over the fells. The restaurant and bar offer a casual environment to relax. The menu is designed around local ingredients including fish from nearby Lake Inari and reindeer meat from local Sami.

Scenic View Suite – decorated comfortably and elegantly with a combination of modern design and Scandinavian influence. There is a small sitting area which has a sofa bed, more suited to smaller children and an upper area accessed by stairs to the bedroom with either double or twin beds, both with large scenic window. It includes bathroom with shower, free wi-fi, flat screen TV, mini-refrigerator and mini-bar and coffee & tea facilities.

Scenic View Suite with Sauna – same facilities as the Scenic View Suite but slightly larger and with a separate sauna and small kitchenette.

Aurora Glass Cabin – smaller than the Scenic View Suites, better suited for couples. Above the bed is a three-panel glass design – ideal for gazing at the stars overhead and hopefully the northern lights! Includes bathroom with shower, free wi-fi, flat screen TV, mini-refrigerator and mini-bar and coffee & tea facilities.

Activity Information

The included activities have been selected to fit in with the duration of your stay – quite simply, the longer you stay, the more experiences there are to enjoy!

Aurora hunting by car (approx. 3 hours)

Head out with the guides in search of the best spots for viewing the northern lights. The exact duration and routes can vary conditions and is weather dependent.

Husky experience (approx. 4 hours)

Transfer to the husky kennels for an unforgettable husky sled trip in the snowy landscape. You are given full instructions on how to drive your own sled, before heading off in pairs, changing drivers on route. Lunch included.

Snowmobile experience (approx. 3-4 hours)

After receiving safety information and driving instructions you head out on the snowy trails through nature near the Saariselkä area heading to the gold prospector’s camp. Enjoy warming drinks and snacks while listening to stories and earn about local culture and history of gold panning in the area. You will also have the opportunity to try your hand at gold panning.

Reindeer experience (approx. 3.5 hours)

You are transferred to the reindeer park where you have a chance to meet these arctic creatures and learn about the life of a Sami herder. Enjoy a short reindeer sled ride and help feed the reindeer.
