Overview

Experience a total eclipse of the sun from the unique perspective of a polar expedition ship. This once-in-a-lifetime voyage will explore the many wonders of Greenland. Witness glaciers flowing from the snow-capped peaks of the Watkins Mountains and marvel at the stunning fjords of Skjoldungen. Discover the unique Greenlandic culture in the town of Tasiilaq and visit Nuuk, one of the smallest world capitals.

To witness the eclipse itself, your ship will be positioned in the centre of the shadow of the moon on the isolated Blosseville Coast. You will be uniquely placed for the best possible views to observe this natural phenomenon!

Itinerary

Arrive into Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital city. In the afternoon you will board the vessel and begin your expedition. Get ready for a great adventure ahead!

Cruising north across the Denmark Strait, your Expedition Team will prepare you for the journey and make informative presentations. Learn about the history and politics of the Arctic, the wildlife that call the area home, and the geology and climate of the area. You may also observe seabirds following the ship and possibly whales that frequent these cold waters.

On 12th August 2026, the goal is to get into the perfect spot to witness this natural phenomenon. The ship will be anchored close to shore, right at the heart of the total eclipse – that magical moment when the moon completely blocks out the sun’s light. Sheltered from the ocean, the calm landing beach will provide unobstructed view towards the western sky.

Thanks to advanced meteorological forecasts and a bit of good fortune, you and your fellow adventurers will come together under clear skies to marvel at this spectacular event. At 4:37 in the afternoon, watch as the moon casts its shadow over the dramatic and isolated Blosseville Coast. Totality will only last for a brief 2 minutes and 17 seconds, so make sure to savour every second of this unique experience!

Total solar eclipse

Your exploration of Greenland begins in East Greenland, one of the least visited and most remote parts of the island. Your days sailing along the coast will be guided by weather and ice conditions, with each day and each excursion presenting new adventures. The region is a sight to behold, boasting a mesmerising maze of vast glaciers, steep mountains and breath-taking fjords. Visit Tasiilaq and discover the town’s unique culture. Conditions permitting, you may visit Skjoldungen, where you can cruise between mountains to view glaciers deep within the fjords. The narrow part of the fjord provides an ideal place to put the Zodiacs in the water for a more in-depth exploration.

Explore Greenland’s fertile southern coast, nicknamed Arctic Patagonia, a region as rich in spectacular scenery as it is in history and culture. This is where Erik the Red gave Greenland its name, everywhere you look offers vistas of icy waters set against a backdrop of soaring mountains, clear waterfalls and lush, green valleys. Scattered around the shores of the fjord system are several small settlements, from the past and present day. Areas you may visit here include Price Christian Sound and Qassiarsuk village, one of Eric the Red’s original settlements.

Follow the rugged coast of this vast island northwards. Keep a lookout for wildlife – Whales, seals and a huge variety of seabirds are common in these rich waters.

Discover the beauty of West Greenland. Explore bays and channels by zodiac, whilst discovering quaint villages in some of Greenland’s most picturesque places. The west coast is home to Nuuk, the charming capital of Greenland, where you will have time to wander its historic streets. Visit the small village of Kangaamiut, an incredibly picturesque settlement in Greenland’s central Qeqqata region.
