Overview

This short break based at Hotel Ullensvang in the heart of the fjords gives you the chance to hike the many trails around Hardangerfjord and explore nature. Enjoy time on the trail before returning to the hotel to relax in the wellness area. With the first night spent in the vibrant city of Bergen and the choice to travel by train and bus or hire a car, this is a great way to experience Fjord Norway.

Norway lends itself perfectly to the outdoor enthusiast and this short break offers many opportunities for the keen walker to combine the scenic beauty of Hardangerfjord with the delightful city of Bergen. On arrival, there is time to explore the Hanseatic coastal town of Bergen, but you may wish to extend your stay here as there are several attractions to visit, including walking trails at the top of Mount Fløyen, accessible by a funicular railway from the town centre.

Hiking in the fjords

There are many hiking possibilities in Hardanger, some of which start right from the hotel and others a little further away but easily accessible. The most famous of these is HM Queen Sonja’s Panoramic Hiking Trail, perhaps suited to the more advanced walker as it takes up to 6 hours, but is the only one of its kind to be honoured using Her Majesty’s title.

Nearby is the Hardangervidda National Park, the largest in Norway offering marked trails suitable for the beginner to the more advanced, and for the more adventurous, outdoor pursuits with glacier hikes, rafting, kayaking, canoeing and fishing available in the area.

Relaxation in the fjords

Back at the hotel there are plenty of facilities to keep you busy or help you unwind after a day out on the trail. The wellness area has a heated in and outdoor pool with Jacuzzi section, a 88 metre long swimming channel ending at the outdoor infinity pool, as well as a panoramic sauna, Jacuzzi and Japanese foot massage pool. Other facilities include a fitness room, table tennis and rowing boats which are free for guests use. There is also tennis and squash available at a charge.

Itinerary and Accommodation

On arrival take the airport shuttle Flybussen service to the city centre (payable locally) for an overnight stay at your chosen hotel on breakfast basis. There is time to explore the city, perhaps taking the funicular to Mount Floyen for breathtaking views over the city.
