Itinerary & Accommodation
Itinerary & Accommodation
On arrival in Oslo, make your way to the central hotel (payable locally). There are regular trains running from the airport to the central station or an airport coach service. The rest of the day is at leisure – walk along the city streets and explore the city of the Royal family and the main Karl Johan’s street, with many shops, bars and cafes.
After breakfast meet the local guide in the hotel reception for the start of the 3 hour sightseeing tour of Norway’s vibrant capital city. The tour includes a visit to Frogner Park with Vigeland sculptures; the museum of Viking ships showing three original examples; the Royal Palace; City Hall and Akershus Fortress, a medieval castle showing the history of Oslo. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to continue visiting the sights or relax in one of the delightful cafes taking in the city atmosphere.
An early breakfast before meeting in the hotel lobby area and proceeding with luggage to the train station. Board the train to Myrdal – a mountain railway station and junction located about 13km from the village Flam. Here you will change trains and board the famous Flamsbana, one of the steepest and most scenic rail journeys in the world. The line runs through fantastic nature and scenery with steep mountains, waterfalls and through 20 tunnels as it winds its way down to the fjord village Flam. You will have a short time to discover the small village and take a drinks break in one of the cafes.
The journey continues by express boat on the Sognefjord – the King of the fjords and the longest and deepest in Norway. The initial part of the fjord is called Aurlandsfjord, a 17km arm of the Sognefjord and considered one of the most picturesque. The cruise continues to the village Balestrand (total cruise time 90 minutes), where on arrival you walk to the Kviknes Hotel a short distance away. Dinner and two nights stay here.
The day is free for you to relax and enjoy the fjord surroundings. There are several hikes in the area you can take from the village or it is also possible to join an optional full day excursion to Fjaerland (price is 110€ per person and needs to be pre-booked or in Oslo with tour guide on day 1). On this trip take a scenic journey to the small village of Fjaerland passing tiny villages and waterfalls to where the fjord meets the glacier. Dinner back at Kviknes hotel.
The morning is free to spend more time in the fjord village before embarking in the late afternoon on the express boat to Bergen (approx. 4 hours), arriving in the evening. On arrival at the quay it is a short walk to the accommodation for a two night stay on breakfast basis.
Bergen is a UNESCO World Heritage city and a European city of Culture with many attractions in the city itself and in the region. After breakfast, meet in the hotel lobby for a guided 2 hour sightseeing tour visiting the main places of interest such as the Hanseatic Bryggen with the church of Mary; the Hakon Fortress and the famous fish market. Afterwards you have time to explore yourself, perhaps take the Floibanen funicular railway to Mount Floyen with spectacular views over the city.
Time to explore the city further before making your own way to Bergen airport for your flight home (payable locally). There is a regular Flybus coach service from four locations in the city to the airport (journey time 30 minutes).
