Overview

Pure escapism: that’s what this adventure promises – revel in the pristine wilderness of the remote Troll Peninsula, exploring its mountains, fjords, wildlife-rich valleys and shores.

Timeless, luxurious and exclusive, Deplar Farm is the perfect retreat from which to discover this little-visited region. An exceptional property, it effortlessly combines indulgence and adventure. This is a magical place to stay, whether you’re planning a summer escape under the midnight sun, or cosying up for a winter break in prime territory for northern lights watching. Get ready for a truly unforgettable Iceland adventure…

Deplar Farm: the ultimate North Iceland retreat

Your first glimpse of Deplar Farm – dark timber walls and turf-covered roofs nestled into the mountains – hints at its origins as a traditional Icelandic sheep farm dating back to the 18th century. But as you approach the homestead (by private road transfer or helicopter), modern details emerge: a steaming al-fresco pool, raised decks and floor-to-ceiling windows.

It offers luxurious suites, meals prepared by one of Iceland’s top chefs, an indoor-outdoor geothermal pool and minimalist spa, private helicopter pad and a superb choice of expert-guided activities and experiences – including opportunities to visit Lake Myvatn and go whale watching. Wellness is woven into the lifestyle at Deplar Farm, with a rich menu of experiences tailored to your personal goals.

Exploring the Troll Peninsula and beyond

Nature also works its magic at Deplar Farm: slip into the geothermally-heated spring-fed pool, keep watch on a winter’s night for the aurora borealis, or explore the Troll Peninsula by foot, horseback or fat bike – all part of the Deplar experience. In summer, you can go fly-fishing or kayaking under the midnight sun; in winter, strap on snowshoes or cross-country skis, or set off on a day of high-octane heli-skiing, carving powder through the surrounding mountains. Flexibility is the watchword at Deplar – the farm is kitted out for every possible adventure.

Reykjavik and The Blue Lagoon

To round off an extraordinary adventure in North Iceland, you will fly back to Reykjavik and, if time allows before your onward flight home, we can transfer you to the Blue Lagoon for an optional spot of pampering at the exclusive Retreat Spa. Of course, you may not want to go home just yet! If that’s the case, we’d be happy to extend your holiday to include a few nights in a stylish hotel right in the heart of Reykjavik. As well as time for enjoying the city’s excellent restaurants and designer shops, you’ll be given recommendations by our Travel Specialists for a wide choice of museums, galleries and cultural attractions. You could also take a private tour of the Golden Circle, visiting Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal site of Geysir.

Suggested Itinerary

Fly from your preferred airport to Keflavik where you will be met on arrival for a private transfer to Reykjavik. After checking in to your hotel, set out to explore Iceland’s exciting capital. Highlights include the striking Hallgrimskirkja cathedral and the Perlan, with its northern lights planetarium and indoor ice cave. Cafes, bars and boutique shops line Laugavegur Street, while the city has no shortage of fine-dining restaurants. Overnight in Iceland’s vibrant capital city, Reykjavik staying at either Canopy Hotel (other hotel options are available)

In the morning you will be met at your hotel for a private transfer to Reykjavik City Airport for the 45-minute flight to Akureyri in North Iceland. On arrival, your transfer to Deplar Farm can either be by helicopter or a 90-minute drive that skirts Iceland’s deepest fjord, Eyjafjordur, before heading inland through the wild mountain valleys of the Troll Peninsula. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy all the relaxing spaces, incredible views, delicious cuisine and wealth of activities available at Deplar Farm. Spend the next three nights at Deplar.

With two full days to enjoy Deplar Farm, the Troll Peninsula and other highlights of North Iceland, you can make your time as busy or as relaxed as you like. Ask us about optional extras such as dog-sledding, boat tours to nearby islands or excursions inland to explore some of North Iceland’s other natural wonders. Lake Myvatn, for example, is within easy reach and we’d highly recommend a tour with a private guide, experiencing its volcanic palette of lava fields, basalt pillars and hissing fumaroles. You are also close to some of Europe’s best whale watching spots. Both Eyjafjordur and Skjalfandi Bay are renowned for their humpback and minke whales, as well as large pods of white-beaked dolphins.

Transfer to Akureyri for your flight to Reykjavik. An optional visit to the Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon can be arranged on your way to the international airport at Keflavík. Soak in peace, enjoy an in-water massage and Blue Lagoon Ritual, where silica, algae and minerals are used to rejuvenate and exfoliate the skin, stimulate circulation and energise mind and body. You will never feel more relaxed before a homeward flight. Alternatively, extend your holiday with a few nights in Reykjavik, or talk to our Travel Specialists about staying at some of our favourite properties in West and South Iceland, such as Hotel Ranga and Hotel Husafell.
