Overview
With its extraordinary beauty and wealth of volcanic and geothermal features, North Iceland is the perfect option for those wanting to immerse themselves in a world of dramatic landscapes, wildlife encounters and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. Included in this 5-day trip is a thrilling Superjeep safari, ideal for exploring wild and out of the way places.
Lake Myvatn
The stunning Lake Myvatn has a unique and special lure, offering an incredible array of volcanic features including craters, lava flows, mud pools and hot springs. Set against a backdrop of mountains and fringed by atmospheric lava formations, this shallow lake, which is often frozen in winter, will surprise and enchant.
Superjeep Safari
An inextricable part of Iceland’s modern culture, superjeeps can take you to places where conventional cars simply aren’t able to venture to. These modified four wheel drive vehicles have high ground clearance, massive studded tyres and the latest safety and navigation equipment to really get you “off the beaten track”. During the winter months, your Superjeep safari will take you on an excursion to three remote waterfalls, including the famous Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Over the summer, you will be taken out to the lava fields of Askja and Holuhraun, where you’ll be able to hike or simply sit by the stream and enjoy the peace of the Icelandic Highlands.
Siglufjordur
The small fishing town of Siglufjordur sits on a narrow fjord of the same name. Its heritage lies in the herring industry, but it has achieved more modern fame as the location for Iceland's acclaimed TV series 'Trapped'.

Day 3 Myvatn - Siglufjordur
The scenic drive between Myvatn and Sigliufjordur holds countless opportunities for new experiences. Take a detour up to Husavik, where you can choose optional activities such as a whale watching or a snowmobile excursion. On the way there you can also visit Grenjadarstadur, a wonderful old turf parsonage and folk museum (open June to August) – nearby is the Laxa Power Station.
Continuing onto Siglufjordur after retracing your route back to Akureyri, you’ll be spending two nights in this small town, which is tucked into a spectacular fjord and hemmed in by mountains. Siglufjordur was originally established as a herring fishing port and the Herring Era Museum is well worth a visit.

* Choice of Vehicles
We can offer a wide range of rental vehicles for this holiday – our team will be happy to talk you through the options and provide a quote for the most suitable category based on your individual requirements.-
4WD
We would always recommend a 4WD for winter travel, but many clients also prefer the greater security and comfort that a larger vehicle provides year round – upgrade your vehicle from as little as £10 per person, per day. -
Go electric
With a selection of electric cars now available including the Kia Niro and Volkswagen ID.3, you can choose to upgrade from as little as £12 per person, per day. We recommend this option for summer only, due to the colder temperatures in winter affecting battery range.
