Overview
For many Icelanders the superjeep is an obsession and an inextricable part of Iceland's modern culture. On this small group escorted trip you'll experience these huge 4WD vehicles which are specially modified with high ground clearance, gigantic tyres and the latest safety and navigation equipment enabling them to travel just about anywhere, giving their passengers a thrilling ride!
For visitors the excitement of superjeeps lies in knowing that you will be travelling where conventional vehicles simply cannot go, as well as seeing the wilder side of the island. In winter, studded tyres give good traction on ice, while reduced air pressure in the tyres allows the vehicles to glide over deep snow, rather than sink into it. In the summer, the enormous tyres cope with the uneven terrain without a hitch and with the high clearance you'll be surprised at what the vehicles can tackle!
Each superjeep seats 2-7 people and often several vehicles will travel in convoy. The exact route taken each day will depend on the weather but wherever you go in the hands of these expert drivers, you can be sure of a thoroughly exciting, enjoyable and safe time.
One likely highlight is the Golden Circle, Iceland's trio of natural wonders - Geysir geothermal area with its spouting hot springs; two-tiered falls of Gullfoss and historic Thingvellir, a scenic and very rugged area where the earth's tectonic plates meet.
After exploring off the beaten track each day, return to your Reykjavik hotel and experience the delights of this small capital city.

Day 2 Golden Circle
Experience some of Iceland's greatest natural phenomena, starting with a drive to scenic Thingvellir National Park, where great rifts divide the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. This area provides the ideal landscape to put the vehicles through their paces. Continue along the mountain road to Laugarvatn, visiting the spectacular two-tiered waterfall, Gullfoss and the dramatic erupting geysers at Geysir in the Haukadalur valley. On the return to Reykjavik, you'll detour via Kerid - a striking 3000-year old, lake-filled crater - as well as Hveragerdi, the 'greenhouse' village where geothermal energy has been cleverly harnessed. You will also have the option to go snowmobiling on the Langjokull glacier (at additional cost

Day 3 South Shore
Travel along the south shore by superjeep, exploring its many scenic sights including beautiful waterfalls, bird cliffs and rugged black sand beaches as well as delving into the country’s Viking heritage. Drive in the vicinity of Eyjafjallajokull, where you can see the dramatic effects of the April 2010 eruption.
In the evening during winter there is another opportunity to head out of the city by superjeep to hopefully witness the northern lights if this was not successful on the first night (subject to weather and light conditions).
