Overview

Surrounded by beautiful Arctic wilderness, 150 km north of the Arctic Circle, Máttáráhkká Northern Lights Lodge is ideally located for an adventurous winter break.

Utterly charming, and family-run, the lodge offers personalised service and an exclusive experience, ensuring every guest is well cared for and feels special. This includes savouring delicious traditional cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients, and opportunities to unwind in the cosy lounge in front of a crackling log fire. Winter evenings were made for this.

Your stay is based on full board and includes a package of fun and adventurous activities. Choose between a 3-night or 4-night option. And after your day in the wilderness, recharge in the sauna and outdoor hot tub – perhaps with the northern lights dancing overhead.

The order of the activities will be confirmed locally and each activity will be included once during your stay according to the itinerary.

Snowmobiling

The guide will show you how to handle the machines, and after a full safety briefing and driving lesson you head out on specially prepared trails through winter wonderland, enjoying the breathtaking scenery along the way.

Please note: all drivers will need a valid driving licence to show before the excursion and those without a valid driving licence will travel as a passenger on the snowmobile.

Husky Sledging

Experience the Wilderness of Lapland (3-night tour)

Sit back and relax on warm reindeer skins in a large wooden sled, ready to explore the wonderful winter landscape of Swedish Lapland. Your guide will drive the sled through the sparkling frozen winter wonderland, featuring old pine tree forests, frozen lakes, and swamps.  Along the route, enjoy a traditional Swedish fika, with a hot drink and cookies, by the campfire. Your guide will share stories about the area, the Sami people, and the wildlife before heading back to the camp.

Best of Lapland (4-night tour)

Join this adventure as a musher and drive a team of huskies through the pristine winter wilderness. Two people share one sledge and take turns with driving the team.

Northern Lights Snowmobiling Adventure

Embark on a thrilling snowmobile ride through the dark night, navigating unique ‘off-the-map trails’ and immersing yourself in the magic of Lapland. Atop Mt Ednamvarri, warm up with a hot drink as you await the Northern Lights to grace the night sky with their mesmerizing dance. Your guide will assist in capturing the photographs of this special phenomenon.

Please note: all drivers will need a valid driving licence to show before the excursion and those without a valid driving licence will travel as a passenger on the snowmobile.

Sami & Reindeer Experience

Travel to the Sami Village and meet the local reindeer herder, who will introduce you to the traditional lifestyle of the Sami people. Meet the reindeer and take a short reindeer sled ride through the winter landscape before enjoying lunch by the crackling fire.

Northern Lights Chase in the Abisko National Park

Travelling in a comfortable minibus to the stunning Abisko National Park for a Northern Lights chase.

With verdant forests, majestic mountainscapes and some of the best aurora displays you’ll ever encounter, Abisko National Park is simply remarkable. Dubbed the world’s most illuminating experience, it is recognised as the most reliable place on the globe for northern lights sightings, where displays can be more intense or prolonged than anywhere else on the globe.
