Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

Only accessible by flight, this remote and stylish lodge is located just one kilometre from the Skeleton Coast National Park, yet still within the Namib Desert offering a rich diversity of desert adapted wildlife.

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is scenically located in a broad valley at the confluence of two tributaries of the dry Hoanib River in the northern part of the private Palmwag Concession. Flanked to the east and west by rugged hills, the camp looks out over stunning, starkly beautiful scenery.

The lodge consists of seven large tent-styled rooms and one family unit, each comprising shaded outdoor decks. The communal area has a plunge pool, camp fire, bar and lounge with comfy armchairs from which to appreciate the spectacular views.

A stay here will provide unforgettable memories. Activities include visiting remote desert oases, remnants of shipwrecks and a large seal colony at Mowe Bay. Wildlife in the area also includes desert adapted elephant, lion and giraffe as well as jackal, ostrich and brown hyena.

Optional Activities

A variety of optional activities are available, including the following:

Game drives
Game drives showcase the magnitude of the landscape and offer the best possibilities of seeing desert adapted wildlife. Morning or afternoon drives are available as well as full-day excursions.

Nature walks
Nature walks from the lodge are an exciting way to get up close and personal with desert wildlife. As well as the possibility of spotting big game, it is also a good opportunity to study the smaller creatures and the fascinating plant life of the concession.

Skeleton Coast excursion with scenic flight
On a stay of three nights (or more) full day excursions to the Skeleton Coast are offered. A fascinating 4×4 trip to the coast takes you via the wilderness and wildlife of the Hoanib River and floodplain, the dune fields and Klein Oasis. Arriving at the Skeleton Coast itself reveals a rocky coastline with a huge Cape fur seal colony and shipwreck remains. Weather dependent, a scenic flight back to the lodge offers a magnificent perspective of your journey from the air.

Day trips to desert oases
Full day trips to Klein Oase and Auses Spring can be organised. These oases are a fascinating respite from the dry surrounds of the desert and offer the chance of seeing wildlife coming to drink as well as plenty of birdlife.
