Full description

Get out into the wilderness and try your hand at husky sledding - mushing your own dog team through Alta’s beautiful snow laden surrounds followed by an evening meal and overnight in a heated lavvu with floor to ceiling window for optimum aurora viewing. This exciting adventure is just a small part of our Alta Arctic break

It starts in Alta town with time to visit the modern and elegant Cathedral of the Northern Lights, the Alta Museum with samples of its famous rock art which dates back to 4200BC and embark on a guided chase for the aurora in the evening. Then the wilderness awaits, taking you to a husky lodge nearby for your dog sledding experience in the dim arctic afternoon twilight followed by a dip in the Jacuzzi and later that evening a two-course dinner is served in the renovated lodge.

Finishing off a great day, when it’s time to rest, you’ll head to your tent. But this is no normal camping tent! – the aurora tipi are insulated against the winter chill, and come with double bed, wood burning stove and one section of the lavvu has been replaced with a panoramic window so on clear nights you can watch the stars overhead, and if you’re lucky you may get a glimpse of the northern light show.

After a restful night, wake up to a hearty breakfast before the second husky tour, this time in daylight! The trip gives you time to see the surrounding nature as you guide your own dog team into the forest and along the bank of the frozen Alta River.

The next part of the tour takes you to Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, arriving by transfer in time for lunch in the restaurant. Afterwards you receive a tour around the hotel and information on how best to sleep in minus temperatures using the extreme sleeping bags and facilities. In the evening there are opportunities for an optional excursion, including a northern lights hunt with reindeer sledding and Sami culture before your overnight experience sleeping in an ice room.

In the morning the sauna will be ready to welcome you before breakfast is served, bringing an end to your Alta Arctic Adventure. A transfer will take you back to the airport, or if you have time there are morning activities available to carry on your time in Northern Norway, perhaps extending it further in a mountain lodge or travelling to Tromsø for a short visit.

Whatever you decide, our Sales team will be happy to give you more information and discuss the options in more detail.
