Itinerary & Accommodation
Itinerary & Accommodation
Fly direct from London Gatwick to Tromso. On arrival you will be met and transferred (1 hour 10 minutes) to Malangen Resort. Check-in to your accommodation and enjoy the evening meal in the hotel’s restaurant.
After breakfast, don the winter gear and get ready for a thrilling dog sledding trip through the white silence. Located just 10 minutes walk away, the kennels with about 50 dogs has the eager huskies waiting to take you into the wilderness. Following a short lesson on how to manage your own sled, drive in pairs with a chance to change drivers halfway and finish the excursion with a delicious hot meal. The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery of the fjord and mountains from the accommodation. Enjoy an early dinner in the restaurant before the evening excursion, Northern Lights Watch at 21.30. It begins at the hotel with a briefing on this natural phenomenon and the current conditions. Then you set off to Camp Nikka, just a 10-15 minutes walk away to a secluded area by a frozen lake, with 3 lavvus to keep you warm and sheltered while keeping watch for the aurora. The setting by the lake is stunning and the open fires welcoming while the hot stew is prepared later in the evening. The experienced guides can help you with photographing the lights should they make an appearance and later on, after you return to the hotel, you can opt to be woken during the night with an aurora alarm, so you can capture even more of the magical show. Meals included: breakfast, hot lunch after the activity, 3-course dinner and hot stew at Camp Nikka.
In the morning follow in the footsteps of famous Norwegian explorers into the untouched wilderness to experience the beautiful silence of the snowy forest, the scent of the open camp fire, and if lucky, maybe even a glimpse of a willow grouse or red fox in their daily routines. This is a fantastic way to get close to nature and learn about the skills needed in the wilderness. In the afternoon you may wish to rent fat bikes (additional charge) - mountain bikes with oversized tyres, perfect for the snowy terrain and the well marked tracks around the hotel. Later on in the evening (although the exact day and time will be confirmed), the sauna and Jacuzzi waits for your private 2 hour session with complimentary bottle of sparkling wine. Lay back and soak in the steaming hot tub, while sipping wine and gazing at the clear sky for the northern lights to show. A magical and romantic moment to share! Meals included: breakfast, light hot meal after the snowshoeing, 3-course dinner.
If you are on the 3 night weekend break, your last day is at leisure so you can decide if it’s a relaxing time to enjoy the winter surrounds at the hotel, or perhaps choose an optional activity to add to your winter experience. In the morning you can go snowmobiling through the wilderness, driving in pairs and stopping for a hot meal (adults only). In the afternoon, try some cross-country skiing or join the Sami Storytelling excursion, learning about life as a Sami and their culture. Please note, these finish at 16.00, so it will be a fast turnaround to take the afternoon transfer back to Tromso airport, which leaves at 16.15. The transfer arrives at the airport around 17.30, with plenty of time spare to check-in for the direct flight back to London. Guests on the longer break have this additional day to enjoy winter activities or relax at the hotel.
If travelling on the 4 night midweek break you have time in the morning to add optional excursions or take the time to relax in the beautiful winter scenery before taking the shuttle transfer back to Tromso airport for the direct flight.
