Overview
Discover spectacular West Iceland on this flexible self drive break based at Hotel Husafell, located close to Langjokull glacier just 90 minutes drive from the rugged Snaefellsnes Peninsula. With your own car, you'll have complete flexibility to explore the wealth of natural wonders around the south and west - from rugged coastal features to characterful villages, captivating waterfalls to striking lava fields. Armed with iDiscover, our exclusive digital travel guide, you can be sure not to miss any hidden gems as you travel around.
Reaching dramatically westward, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, is in many ways a microcosm of Iceland as a whole. With its own fjords, ice cap, volcanoes, fishing and farming communities it is one of the country's must visit areas. The north shore is dotted with fishing villages and is home to one of Iceland's most asthetically pleasing mountains Kirkufell. On the south side of the peninsula, the cliffs of Arnarstapi are famed for their rock arches and blow holes.
To the south of Husafell, the Golden Circle route also provides a full day of scenic wonders, while heading further into the interior, you have the chance to explore Inside a Glacier.
Dining at Hotel Husafell is another highlight. The menu is rich in local produce and flavours offering sophisticated dishes that include imaginative creations using seafood, local beef, lamb and wild game. The restaurant’s picture windows frame stunning views of the surrounding fells and woodland.
