Overview

Drive the coastal road between Melbourne and Sydney enjoying spectacular scenery, delightful seafood and encountering local wildlife. This scenic driving route is the perfect way to travel between Melbourne and Sydney, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the numerous lakes, rivers and beaches that form this attractive area.

Explore the boutique stores and galleries of the Mornington Peninsula before heading east to the Gippsland Lakes. Here you can enjoy numerous watersports and hiking trails, search for a variety of endemic wildlife species or simply relax and enjoy the beaches and mountain scenery for which the region is famous.

Excellent seafood is widely available along the coast and this itinerary offers the chance to relax and indulge in true Australian style. You'll also have time to explore the cities of contrasting cities of Melbourne and Sydney taking in parks, gardens and iconic landmarks including the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Day 4 Mornington Peninsula - Lakes Entrance (364 kms)

It is a popular holiday destination with wonderful beaches as well as a spectacular hinterland with mountains, rivers and forests. Day 6 Lakes Entrance - Eden (242 kms)

Travel via the towns of Nowa Nowa, Bellbird Creek and Orbost to arrive at your overnight accommodation in Eden. The town is situated on the edge of beautiful Twofold Bay, a deep natural harbour frequented in spring by migrating humpback whales. Beowa National Park fringes the southern edge of the bay, offering some excellent hiking trails as well as spectacular ocean views from the Green Cape Lighthouse.

You may like to take visit the various historical sites of Sydney including the Australian Maritime Museum which is home to a replica of Captain Cook's HMS Endeavour which landed at Sydney's Botany Bay in April 1770. Alternatively you could visit the many art galleries or enjoy a harbour cruise at twilight.
