Overview

Wilderness Hotel Inari has a wonderful location by a beautiful Arctic lake in the far northern reaches of Finnish Lapland and just a few minutes from Inari village – this perfect setting combines pristine nature, breath taking views and an ideal place for aurora viewing. The wilderness resort offers exciting winter activities as well as accommodation in three different styles.

Wilderness Hotel Inari is another of the four creations of Mari and Jouko Lappalainen, owners of the popular resorts Nellim and Muotka Wilderness Hotels, both of which have been big hits with our guests for many years.

Set on the shores of Lake Inari this stylish resort offers a classic winter experience coupled with cosy accommodation and mouth-watering local cuisine. The main lodge is home to the restaurant and bar with floor to ceiling windows with far reaching views, comfortable sitting areas in front of the warming log fire.

Immerse yourself in the wilderness and spend your day either mushing your own team of dogs, speeding  along the snowy trails on a snowmobile, feeding the reindeer, learning about the local Sami culture and traditions or just taking the time to enjoy the quietness of the  forest.

And of course evenings are filled with sky gazing and searching for the magical colours of the aurora.

Travelling in December – Christmas and New Year

Christmas and New Year are a very magical time here in the Arctic, beautiful festive lights sparkling in the snow, decorations and tasty traditional food and cakes. On Christmas Eve, the much awaited Santa will bring a small present for children and adults alike. Toast the New Year with sparkling wine before gathering outside for bonfire and fireworks to welcome 2022!

Inari Wilderness Hotel is part of the wilderness group which also comprises of Nellim, Muotka and Nangu hotels and offers high quality accommodation and facilities. Accommodation is part of the experience of this holiday and ranges from wilderness hotel rooms, to traditional log cabins to Aurora cabins with glass-fronted domes roofs for the ultimate aurora viewing whilst still keeping your toes warm.

Sleeping one to three people these cabins are a short distance from the main building and feature a glass thermal roof ensuring a clear window for aurora viewing.

Snowmobile Safari (variable)

The guide will show you how to handle the machines, and after a full safety briefing and driving lesson you head out to Lake Inari and its surroundings. Snowmobiling through white winter scenery is a breathtaking experience.

Husky Safari (approx.3 hours)

Husky sledding is a must do experience when visiting Lapland. You will be taught how to drive the sled before heading out for the safari, where the huskies pull the sled through beautiful scenery. Enjoy the dog’s excitement at the start, and the serene silence once they get going. Sleds are based on two people sharing, taking it in turns to mush. Time on sledge is approximately 1 hour. Lunch is included and will be served at the hotel.

Snowshoeing (variable)

Enjoy the beautiful scenery while learning the art of snowshoeing and your guide will will share stories about the Finnish nature along the way.

Aurora Camp (approx. 2.5 hours)

You will be comfortably seated in a sledge pulled behind a guide’s snowmobile and driven to one of the chosen camp spots where an open fire and hot drinks keep you warm while waiting for the sky to show the magical northern lights.

Reindeer Farm visit (approx. 2 hours)

Travel by car to the reindeer farm and learn about the life of a reindeer herder and the importance of reindeer to the local people. Meeting a local herder and his peaceful reindeer is one of the top memories for many visitors.

Aurora Snowmobiling (approx. 2.5 hours)

After driving instructions this snowmobile tour heads to the clear spots where there are higher chances of seeing the northern lights. The distance travelled will vary depending on weather conditions, and if the sky looks promising you will stop to wait for the light show.

Aurora Snowshoe (approx. 2.5 hours)

Snowshoeing on the frozen lake during night time is an adventure of its own. You wander on the lake and surrounding wilderness heading for the camp, where you sit back with hot drinks while gazing at the sky, waiting for the aurora to appear.
