Located 30km south-east of Sesriem, Desert Homestead Lodge can be used as a base to explore Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon. The lodge is well known for its horse safaris through the Namib Desert making it the perfect place to stay for riding enthusiasts.
Desert Homestead Lodge provides a homely feel. Relax and enjoy the impressive panoramic view from the outdoor dining area or the pool. Being environmentally friendly is important here and solar power is the only energy source used for power and heating water. A small waterhole in front of the lodge attracts springbok and oryx.
There are a total of 26 guest chalets including some suitable for families. Each room has air conditioning and a private veranda.
As well as horse riding excursions, there is a one day guided hike offered walking from Desert Homestead Lodge to its sister property, Desert Homestead Outpost.

Located in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is Namibia’s most popular tourist attraction and boasts some of the highest sand dunes in the world reaching almost 400 metres. Visit this spectacular site on a guided tour. A climb up the dunes is rewarded by spectacular views and is highly recommended. You will also visit Deadvlei, a clay pan characterised by dark, dead camel thorn trees which stand in stark contrast against the white pan floor. You may also see some of the resident wildlife such as black-backed jackal, springbok and ostrich as well as some of the many smaller creatures living in the desert such as the fascinating Tok Tokkie beetle, shovel-snouted lizard or Grant’s golden mole.
Namib Mountain Trail
Witness spectacular landscapes as you explore on foot. Walk between Desert Homestead Lodge and its sister property, Desert Homestead Outpost. Watch the sun rise over the red dunes of the Namib Desert and view wildlife such as oryx, springbok and zebra.
Horse riding safaris
Desert Homestead Lodge is famous for its guided trail rides in the Namib Desert. Guided rides are offered twice a day in the early morning and close to sunset. Horse riding safaris lasting several days can be booked by experienced riders as well as beginners. Spending the night under the starry sky of the Namib Desert will be an unforgettable experience.
