Optional Activities

The following optional activities are available at Okonjima:

Large predator tracking
Embark on a game drive in the 200 square kilometre Okonjima Nature Reserve, searching for one of Okonjima’s rehabilitated animals using radio-tracking. You will search for one animal at a time; choose from cheetah, leopard, wild dog or spotted hyena. Your focus will be on finding this animal but you may see other wildlife en route including giraffe, jackal, warthog, antelope and perhaps even another predator! When found, wild dog, hyena and cheetahs can be approached on foot.

AfriCat Carnivore Care Centre
AfriCat is a non-profit organisation set up to conserve and protect threatened cheetah, leopard, and other wild carnivores of Namibia. On this tour, visitors will be able to observe some of this programme at work and learn more about these amazing and beautiful animals. You will get to meet some of the animals kept in Carnivore Care at AfriCat taking a game drive around their large enclosures. If you are lucky, you may even spot our sponsored cheetah, Dune!

Self-guided walking trails
Okonjima has a choice of three trails, ranging from 3-5km in length. Enjoy the solitude of exploring on foot, perhaps spotting some antelope or warthog as you go.

Dune, our adopted cheetah

We are proud at Discover the World to sponsor Dune, a cheetah who is currently living in the AfriCat Carnivore Care Centre.
