This tour will appeal to active travellers with a taste for adventure, who want to try different activities (ice fishing, hiking, kayaking, hot spring bathing) whilst staying at a comfortable and cosy accommodation with excellent home-cooked food. Whilst in the West Fjords you will be looked after by the team at Heydalur - enjoying activities and excursions (this is a semi-escorted itinerary).

Day 1: Arrive in Iceland

Arrive at Keflavik Airport, transfer to the city and overnight at Hotel Cabin.

Day 2: Reykjavik - Heydalur

Morning pick up (between 9 and 10am) from your hotel in Reykjavik, transfer to Heydalur in the West Fjords through stunning wintery landscapes. Visit Deltatunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring en route as well as Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, a stunning network of waterfalls on the way to the Westfjords. Once you reach Hotel Heydalur in the West Fjords, enjoy a 3-course dinner with the family and afterwards relax in a hot tub or natural hot springs, where you can look out for the northern lights

Days 3-5: Around Heydalur

The itinerary for the next 3 days will be flexible to adapt to the changeable weather conditions prevalent in the West Fjords at this time of year, as well as your own preferences. During the 3 days enjoy a guided tour of Isafjordur, a guided hiking trip with snow shoes or cross-country skiing trip in the valley of Heydalur or in Saengurfoss, an ice fishing experience (if weather allows) and a guided tour in the surroundings including a visit to a sheep farm and a salt factory in the region. Other inclusions in the area are the museum of witchcraft in Holmavik, Litli Baer (a turf roofed farm house built in 1985 at the edge of the fjord) and the Artic fox museum in Sudavik. Other activities include sea kayaking and horse riding (September to October only).

Day 6: Heydalur - Reykjavik

The return transfer to Reykjavik commences after breakfast. En route visit the Museum of Witchcraft in Holmavik before reaching the Capital around 4pm. Overnight at Hotel Cabin.

Day 7: Depart Keflavik

Transfer back to Keflavik for the return flight.
